On the evening of Monday, July 8th 2024, at approximately 9 PM, the tranquil surroundings of the Holy Family Care Centre were shattered by the sudden outbreak of a fierce fire near the Convent. The blaze, driven by dry conditions, threatened the safety of the cherished care facility.
The local FARM WATCH was contacted, who swiftly mobilized local farmers to join forces in the battle against the advancing flames. With determination and courage, they formed a united front, working tirelessly to protect the centre’s buildings from the engulfing fire.

All our staff and some of the big boys staying at the centre, woke up and with the support of local farmers, they bravely fought the fire on all sides, The combined efforts of the community heroes finally brought the raging fire under control by around 1 AM, averting what could have been a devastating outcome.
Despite the harrowing ordeal, there was a sigh of relief that no injuries were reported and none of the buildings were destroyed. However, the intense heat did damage the electric fence encircling the property, and the centre suffered losses of their mango crop to the flames.

Reflecting on the night’s events, the community expressed gratitude for the quick response of FARM WATCH and the selfless efforts of local farmers. Their coordinated action not only safeguarded the Holy Family Care Centre but also underscored the resilience and spirit of unity within the community.
As repairs begin and life gradually returns to normalcy at the centre, the incident serves as a poignant reminder of the invaluable support and solidarity that binds the community together in times of crisis
